FISAHARA – Human Rights Film Festival (2012)

The Sahara International Film Festival, also called FiSahara, was first held in 2004. It is currently an annual event that takes place in Sahrawi refugee camps in the southwestern corner of Algeria, near the border with Western Sahara. The Festival is supported by the Polisario Front. This Festival is an initiative to bring cinema as a form of entertainment and culture to the thousands of Sahrawis whose community has lived for more than thirty years of relative isolation in the Algerian desert. The director of the winning film is awarded a white camel.
